Functions of Pericytes in Ischemic Stroke - Lunds universitet

Se hela listan på frontiersin.org 2016-05-26 · Pericytes are vascular mural cells embedded in the basement membrane of blood microvessels. They extend their processes along capillaries, pre-capillary arterioles and post-capillary venules. CNS Pericytes are perivascular cells that line the abluminal surface of the microvasculature. Recent years have witnessed tremendous progress in understanding the function of these cells. Pericytes have emerged as important regulators of vascular development and homeostasis.

Skeletal muscle and cardiac pericytes are now recognised to fulfil an increasing number of functions in normal 2018-03-01 2019-06-06 Pericytes are known to play a key role in the development of cerebral microcirculation but their function in the adult brain and during aging is not clear. H Pericytes are periendothelial mesenchymal cells residing within the microvasculature. Skeletal muscle and cardiac pericytes are now recognised to fulfil an increasing number of functions in normal tissue homeostasis including contributing to microvascular function by maintaining vessel stability and regulating capillary flow. Pericytes: Purpose and Function / January 31, 2021 . Pericytes are cells that wrap around endothelial cells throughout the body. They are essential for the regulation of blood flow and maintenance of homeostasis within the body, such as the blood-brain barrier. Researchers at the Center for Vascular Research, within the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) are studying the role of cells called pericytes, which protectively wrap the retinal vessels building Title:The Role of Pericytes in Blood-Brain Barrier Function and Stroke VOLUME: 18 ISSUE: 25 Author(s):Shuo Liu, Dritan Agalliu, Chuanhui Yu and Mark Fisher Affiliation:UC Irvine Medical Center, 101 The City Drive South, Shanbrom Hall Room 121, Orange, CA 92868.

Transplanting pericytes into host muscle causes them to fuse with myoblasts to form myotubes, which helps to regenerate muscle in cases of injury or necrosis.

Pericytes function

The lack of universal pericytes markers is a major problem. A number of different functions have been attributed to pericytes, and in some organs they have more specific roles. 2. Pericytes: Canonical and New Functions 2.1.

Though the cells themselves were origi-nally described by Charles Rouget, the term “pericytes” was coined by Pericytes are, however, functionally significant; when vessels lose pericytes, they become hemorrhagic and hyperdilated, which leads to conditions such as edema, diabetic retinopathy, and even embryonic lethality. Pericytes have emerged as important regulators of vascular development and homeostasis. In addition, pericytes possess several organ-specific functions, including regulation of blood flow and modulation of the immune response. Pericytes are also emerging as therapeutic targets in pathological conditions such as tissue fibrosis, stroke, and tumors. The vast array of pericyte functions include contractility, immunologic, migratory, and angiogenic. Pericytes have stem cell potential, contribute to the integrity of the blood-brain barrier, and have a regulatory role for hemostasis in the brain.

Pericytes create an interface between the circulatory system and surrounding tissue (Hirschi and D’Amore, 1996). More recently, numerous vascular functions of pericytes have been identified including regulation of cerebral blood flow, maintenance of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), and control of vascular development and angiogenesis. Pericytes can also facilitate neuroinflammatory processes and possess stem cell-like properties.
